Soundscapes and Conversations features seven new musical pieces that showcase Nigel Morris’ unique ability to bring lyrical explorations of sonic beauty using only percussion and drums. Aptly titled, each composition evokes a sense that the percussive instruments are speaking and singing to each other to tell stories with that capture a broad range of emotions to carry the listener to unexpected destinations.
The album was recorded in 2016 at Cat Beach Studio in San Pedro, California. Produced and recorded by Bob Hartry, the album is dedicated to Nigel’s parents Frank and Eileen and his wife Lynn, each of whom he honors in tracks such as “For Frank”, “Gone but not Forgotten”, and “For Lynney.”
From the opening ethereal cymbal swells on “Hitting Stuff” to the closing tubular tones that sit over the 32 note roll of “Gone But Not Forgotten”, Soundscapes and Conversations is a musical masterpiece that could only come from that hands of Nigel Morris.
